Event Description: Shortly after moving to New York City in 1999, singer, pianist and songwriter Tony DeSare was cast as the star of the long running Off-Broadway musical, Our Sinatra, in which he was praised by Variety for his “dapper charm.” Since that time, Tony has earned critical acclaim for his recent performances at the legendary jazz club Birdland, the elegant Café Carlyle, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. On a 2009 Summer Concert Series special holiday concert engagement, Tony DeSare is joined with drums and jazz bass for an exceptional evening of American jazz standards. Coral Gables Congregational Church Address: 3010 De Soto Boulevard Coral Gables FL 33134 U.S.
About the Venue: The Coral Gables Congregational Church building, as a whole, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Sanctuary is fashioned in the Spanish-revival style of the 1920’s. It offers a setting that makes all the concerts very unique in that concert goers can see and hear artists, playing the world’s largest concert halls, in an intimate space. It makes for a very personal experience. With high wood ceilings, tile flooring, and stucco walls, the acoustics are as genuine and appealing to the ears as the beauty of the Sanctuary is to the eyes.
The Church was founded in 1923 and is the oldest established building and organization in Coral Gables. George Merrick, the architect and developer of Coral Gables was the son of a Congregational Minister. To honor his father he built this church which has continued to be not only an historic site but a significant force in this community. Known for it’s inspiring worship; outstanding music and arts program, a top notch early childhood center; and a bold and prophetic outreach program, the church has been a place of solace, sanctuary, and spiritual growth for many over the years.
